Consider A Furnished or Unfurnished Apartment
September 21, 2021Consider furnished or not when looking for a apartment. Sometimes it’s a simple decision but often there are several factors you should evaluate before selecting a new apartment in Dallas or neighboring towns such as Addison, Plano or McKinney/Allen.
There are, however, things you should consider when deciding which is best to rent.
The first consideration is whether or not you have furnishing. If you do have furniture, the choice may be obvious. You’ll want an unfurnished apartment. You’ll focus your search on apartments considering things like your budget; the location; and size.
However even if you have furnishings, you might use the move to a new apartment as an opportunity to add new furniture or furnishings. It’s a great time to make a fresh start or maybe even change your style. Your new apartment can be a gateway to a new chapter in your life.
If you have furnishing you should consider the value of your furniture relative to the cost of moving them. This is particularly true if you’re coming to the Metroplex from a long distance. Ask yourself if it’s worth the cost & hassle to move all or some of your furniture versus buying new items. If you’ve never loved that bedroom set, consider replacing it when you move.
Another thing to consider is how long you plan to stay in your apartment. If you’re a short term renter such as a business traveler who commutes for extended stay to Dallas, finding furnished apartments can be challenging. It’s expensive for landlords to furnish and maintain an apartment if the turnover of tenants is every month or so. You’ll pay a premium but likely still less than an extended stay type complex.
It’s always going to be less expensive to rent an unfurnished apartment even for shorter terms. You should consider renting an unfurnished apartment and then separately renting furniture. You’ll have more flexibility than choosing one furnished by the landlord.
The next big factor is your budget. Can you afford a furnished apartment? Can you afford to buy new items? Is your credit good enough to move into a new apartment and buy new furnishing? All of these things should be considered. Sometimes you may have to start slow and build as you go.
Ultimately, as you consider furnished or not when looking for a Dallas apartment, you need to determine if you have the time, desire, furnishings and budget that gives you the flexibility and larger selection of unfurnished apartments available in Dallas or neighboring towns such as Addison, Plano, McKinney/Allen. It may be worthwhile to rent a furnished apartment even if the costs are higher.
