Little Everyday Habits To Practice For An Organized Home

August 13, 2020

Once or a couple of times a week, a lot of us probably spend a couple of minutes attempting to tidy up our home. Take note though, the keyword here is “attempting.” We all know that a day or two later, our home would be back to how it looked before we picked up the broom. Sometimes, the long days and the crazy moods just get the best of us, you know? But don’t worry. It’s not all bad. Even though you can’t be 100% organized all day long every day of the week, you can come pretty close to it. The key is establishing a solid daily routine and forming or switching to a couple of good organizational habits.

Here are 8 little everyday habits for you to practice. Whether it’s organizing your home or simply feeling organized, these habits can help you have more peace of mind and help you create a better organizing routine to keep your home nice and neat most of the time at least.

1. Create a Routine

As fun as it is to wing each day, routines make our little human brains happy. No matter how minuscule the task is, there’s that sense of accomplishment after doing it. Routines also help create good habits. The best part is that they make you forget just how much you dread certain tasks that need to be done every day. Once you’ve settled into a routine, you’ll be doing everything that needs to be done around the house without even thinking about it. And pretty soon, you’ll be enjoying a more organized house every day. in.

2. Write a Task List or Checklist

Checklists are pretty much one of the best things to help you keep on top of things. Whether it’s at work or with your cleaning routine, a task list can help you avoid missing anything. The best part though is the feeling of ticking off those little boxes and the feeling of productiveness that follows.

Try creating a new to-do-list every day in the morning or before you go to bed based on what your plans are and what needs to be done. If you’re not big on checklists, try jotting down only the most important tasks you need to do.

3. Leave Your Keys, Wallet, or Purse in the Same Spot

Imagine this. You get up early and all that but you still become late because of that cursed 5 minutes your keys or phone was hiding from you. Frustrating isn’t it? Avoid this situation by leaving your keys, phone, wallet, and other accessories you take with you day in day out in one single spot. The best place is a spot in your entryway so you can just grab them when you’re running out.

4. Make Some Time For Your Meal Plan

Deciding what to eat each meal of the day can take up quite a lot of your valuable time. That’s why spending at least 3 or 5 minutes of your day on your daily meal plan can greatly help. Pick out a time of the day and decide what meals you’ll make or have. Then, check if you have the ingredients. If not, add them to your shopping list then schedule a grocery time. Now, all you have to do is cook or call for delivery, easy peasy.

5. Declutter Your Wallet

Our wallets often experience some level of neglect when it comes to decluttering. Once we get our cash out, it’s so easy to just shove it back into our pockets or bags. But now, it’s time to change that. Whenever you have some downtime like sitting in front of the tv or having your afternoon coffee, sift through the contents of your wallet.

Get rid of receipts you no longer need. Put the rewards cards you use the most front and center. And transfer your change to its designated place so your wallet won’t have to bear all that unnecessary weight.

6. Choose Your Clothes for the Next Day Before Going to Bed

Trying out all those clothes in the morning when you’re already running late not only wastes time but also creates quite a mess. That’s why we recommend laying out your outfit before you go to bed. It’ll make you feel a lot more orderly and efficient. And trust us, you’ll be going out your door feeling much better and more prepared for your entire day. Plus, you won’t be coming home to a bedroom floor full of clothes you’d need to put back in place.

7. Prep the Things You’ll Need for the Next Day

Very much like laying out your clothes, laying out everything you’ll need for the next day will save you so much time and so much effort. Some things you can do is to lay out ingredients for breakfast, dinner, or lunch and repack your work bags, school bags, or gym bags. It’s also wise to check the weather forecast for the next day and pack an umbrella if necessary. The more tasks you can check off the list the night before, the more your morning will run smoothly.

8. Do the Dishes Before You Go to Bed

Nobody wants creepy crawlies feasting on their leftovers while they sleep soundly in bed because, after their feast, these nasty little things can crawl into bed with you. That’s why we suggest doing the dishes before you go to bed. This will get rid of any additional tasks for the next morning and you’ll be greeted by the sight of a lovely neat kitchen.
