Spring Update: How To Refresh Your Home For Spring

April 3, 2020

There’s just something about spring that brings about this excitement and feelings of rejuvenation. It’s hard to pinpoint what it is exactly, but it sweeps us nevertheless into joining in to usher the new season to our homes. After all, after months of cold, dreary weather, it’s time to embrace bright, blue skies and warm sunshine. For some, this means grabbing the brooms, vacuums, and dusters. And for some, it means grabbing the old decor boxes and digging in for those spring items. Just a few small changes and small trinkets can already make a big change. And it can shift your decor from warm and cozy to bright and airy. So, if you’re itching to refresh your home for the new season, here are some tips to help you fully embrace spring.

Use Lighter Fabrics

Now that the cold is out, it’s time to put away your heavy, cozy, and thick fabrics. Store away your faux furs and cable knits and replace them with light fabrics like cotton and linen. Also, don’t forget to swap out your heavy draperies for lighter and airier ones. This lets all the light in. And it makes a room feel airy, brighter, and bigger.

Add a Pop of Color

Spring is all about color! So, while those dark tones were right for the wintertime for all the coziness they gave you, it’s time to swap them out for pastels, neons, bold colors, and such. Dig into your old boxes and find those pops of colorful textiles and accessories. Decide on a palette if you want. Then, sprinkle it all over the room through your throws, pillows, vases, placemats, picture frames and such. If you’re feeling daring, you can even repaint some furniture pieces or accessories to give your home an eye-catching pop of color. If you’re a neutrals type of person though, you can opt instead for metals like brass and chrome.

Bring The Outside In

What better way is there to bring spring into your home than to add greens and blossoms to the scenery inside? A bouquet of freshly cut flowers from the backyard, if you have them, simply screams spring. If not flowers, you can bring in some greenery and raise your own colony of bright indoor plants. Not only do they liven up the space but, they also improve the air quality of your home. So, it’s a double win.

Rearrange Your Furniture

If you want to make a dramatic change to the room without spending a single cent, all you have to do is rearrange your furniture. All you’d need to do is a little lifting and pushing and you’ll have a home that looks brand new in no time. You can also try switching pieces between rooms to give them a new life. For something simpler, you can just add and subtract. Take out some things like rugs, extra side tables, knickknacks and such. And add in spring decor in place of your holiday decors.

Introduce a Whiff of Spring

Sadly, it’s time to part with your gingerbread candles, pumpkin candles, and potpourri. And it’s time to replace them with lighter and fresher scents. So, store up those holiday candles for the next holiday season and reach for your citrus or floral candles. You can also use a diffuser to spread the scent of essential oils like lavender and grapefruit throughout the room for a refreshing and relaxing smell.

Swap Out Your Art

Your art can say so much about the season as much as your the textiles in your home. So, take a moment to swap out a few pieces of art to make your home feel fresh and updated. The fun part about this is you make your own art. You can get some references online and add in your personal twist. Or you can work on it with your housemates or family.

Paint

If you have some time off, consider repainting a wall or two to give your room an easy and complete makeover. Go brighter, cleaner, and crisper. If you want, go for that pastel look you’ve been wanting to try all year. You can also paint up an accent wall for a more dramatic effect. You can do a lot of things with paint. All it takes is creativity.

Swap Out Your Tableware

You’ve enjoyed using your holiday and winter-inspired tableware. And now, it’s time to enjoy your spring-inspired ones. A good tip is to always keep a lighter set of plates and cups to rotate with the seasons. Whites or off whites are perfect for the spring and summer. But, you can also go for the more colorful ones to complement the bright and sunny weather outside.
